Coincidence is a funny thing.
I like to keep it close to home whenever the missus and I go out for some unwinding and entertainment. We've long since disconnected the "Club" scene and instead try and find venues or events that are little bit more laid back and, forgive me for sounding a bit condescending, unpretentious. So it's in this very simple mindset that, a few years back, while attending a weekly Konpa event at local spot KISS Lounge, that I came across DJ Excel for the first time.
'Twas certainly a very swinging time as the man who would eventually become a standard in my MP3 playlist did his thing and kept the wife and I musically delighted. I even walked up to him behind the deck to shake his hand and thanking him for a great time. I still have the promotional CD he handed out at the end of the night.
Fast forward a few years to a few weeks ago where I was attending/shooting my niece's first communion. What a surprise! He's the DJ!
I dunno if it was just me fanboying or just the fact that he was such a nice guy and fun entertainer, but I really did enjoy making his acquaintance. Took a few shots of the man himself doing his skilled thing. You can get a taste of the beatmaker's creations by heading over to Soundcloud. Click below for a one of my favorite tracks - a flavorful remix of the Beiber's "As Long As You Love Me". Epic!
People should always take note of the fact that a DJ is not just a guy sitting there putting music in a queue. Respect the craft. Respect the artist.
Thanks again DJ Excel for a 'Excel'lent time. Hats off and wishes for ongoing success Hope you like the shots.
